Installing DreamPlan as an App (PWA)

Overview

DreamPlan is a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you can install it on your phone, tablet, or computer and use it like a native app — without downloading anything from an app store. Once installed, DreamPlan gets its own icon on your home screen, opens in a full-screen window, and loads faster on repeat visits.

This works for both the Planner Portal and the Vendor Portal.

What Is a PWA?

A Progressive Web App is a website that can be installed on your device and behaves like a traditional app. Here is how it compares to using the site in a regular browser:

Installing on iOS (Safari)

DreamPlan must be installed using Safari on iPhone and iPad. Other browsers on iOS do not support PWA installation.

  1. Open Safari and navigate to your portal:
    • Planners: portal.dreamplan.sagargandecha.dev
    • Vendors: vendor.dreamplan.sagargandecha.dev
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen (the square with an upward arrow).
  3. Scroll down in the share menu and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Edit the app name if you like (the default is “DreamPlan”), then tap Add in the top-right corner.
  5. DreamPlan now appears on your home screen. Tap the icon to open it in full-screen mode.

Tip: If you do not see “Add to Home Screen” in the share menu, scroll down — it may be below the fold.

Installing on Android (Chrome)

  1. Open Google Chrome and navigate to your portal:
    • Planners: portal.dreamplan.sagargandecha.dev
    • Vendors: vendor.dreamplan.sagargandecha.dev
  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome.
  3. Tap Add to Home screen (or Install app if prompted).
  4. Confirm by tapping Add. DreamPlan is now on your home screen.

On some Android devices, Chrome may show an install banner at the bottom of the screen automatically. Tap Install to proceed.

Installing on Desktop (Chrome or Edge)

  1. Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and navigate to your portal:
    • Planners: portal.dreamplan.sagargandecha.dev
    • Vendors: vendor.dreamplan.sagargandecha.dev
  2. Look for the install icon in the address bar — it appears as a small monitor with a download arrow, or a plus icon inside a circle.
  3. Click the install icon, then click Install in the confirmation dialog.
  4. DreamPlan opens in its own window and is added to your operating system’s app launcher (Start menu on Windows, Applications folder on macOS, app drawer on ChromeOS).

Alternatively, click the three-dot menu in Chrome and select Install DreamPlan or Cast, save and share > Install page as app.

Benefits for Planners

  • Quick access — tap your home screen icon to jump straight into your event dashboard.
  • Full-screen experience — no browser toolbar means more screen space for seating charts, guest lists, and budgets.
  • Faster loading — frequently visited pages load from cache, even on slow connections.
  • On-the-go planning — check your checklist, view RSVPs, or message vendors from anywhere.

Benefits for Vendors

  • Instant inbox access — open the app and go straight to your enquiries.
  • Quick quote management — review and respond to quotes without navigating through a browser.
  • Professional workflow — the app-like experience makes managing your business on mobile feel seamless.
  • Faster response times — quick access helps you maintain a strong SLA badge.

Install Prompt Behaviour

DreamPlan may show an install prompt automatically when certain conditions are met:

  • You have visited the portal at least twice.
  • You are using a supported browser (Chrome, Edge, or Safari on iOS).
  • You have not already installed the PWA.

If you dismiss the prompt, you can always install manually using the steps above. The prompt will not appear again after being dismissed.

Offline Support

DreamPlan provides a graceful fallback page when you lose your internet connection. If you open the app while offline:

  • You will see a friendly offline page explaining that a connection is needed.
  • The page includes a Retry button to check for connectivity.
  • Once your connection is restored, you can continue using DreamPlan normally.

DreamPlan requires an active internet connection for most features (messaging, saving changes, loading live data). The offline fallback ensures you see a clear message rather than a broken page.

The offline page is available at /offline on all portals.

Tips

Tip: Install the PWA on the device you use most for planning. Most planners find their phone is the most convenient for day-to-day checks and quick replies.

Tip: The PWA updates automatically. When DreamPlan releases new features, they appear in your installed app without any action on your part.

Tip: If the install option does not appear, make sure you are using a supported browser (Safari on iOS, Chrome or Edge on Android and desktop) and that you have visited the portal at least once before.

Tip: You can uninstall the PWA at any time — on iOS, long-press the icon and tap “Remove App”; on Android, long-press and drag to “Uninstall”; on desktop, open the app, click the three-dot menu, and select “Uninstall”.

FAQ

Is the PWA the same as a mobile app from the App Store? Functionally, yes — it opens in its own window, has a home screen icon, and behaves like a native app. The difference is that it is installed directly from your browser, not from the App Store or Google Play.

Does installing the PWA use storage on my device? Very little. The PWA caches some assets for faster loading, but the storage footprint is minimal compared to a traditional app — typically under 5 MB.

Will I get push notifications? Push notifications are not currently enabled for the DreamPlan PWA. You will receive notifications via email based on your notification settings.

Can I install it on multiple devices? Yes. Install the PWA on as many devices as you like. Your account data syncs across all of them since everything is stored on the server.

Do I need to update the PWA manually? No. The PWA updates automatically when new versions are deployed. Simply open the app and you will have the latest version.

What browsers support PWA installation? Safari on iOS, Google Chrome on Android and desktop, and Microsoft Edge on desktop. Firefox does not currently support PWA installation on desktop.

Can I install both the Planner and Vendor portals? Yes. Since they are different URLs, they install as separate apps. You will have two icons on your home screen — one for each portal.
